Understanding the WordPress Template Hierarchy

Within a standard WordPress theme, there’s usually multiple Template files. WordPress uses these files to determine how your site is displayed. When modifying a theme, it helps to know when and how WordPress will use these template files so that you can customise how your site looks. A simple use for this is creating a template for displaying Page content and a different template for when displaying Post content (i.e. Blog content).

Anthony is going to give you a basic walk-through of how the WordPress Template Hierarchy works and how you go about using the different templates to display your content exactly how you want.

Anthony Hortin, from Maddison Designs, is a Designer & Developer who builds WordPress websites for a living. He’s one of the co-organisers for the monthly WordPress Melbourne meetups and a co-organiser of WordCamp Melbourne, back in 2013. As well as a contributor to the official WordPress theme and Plugin Directories, he’s also the author of the extremely popular Easy WP Guide WordPress manual.

*Please note, this will be the last Ringwood Meetup for the year.
