The WordPress Developer meetup moves to our new CBD venue this month: Teamsquare. It’s on the corner of Bourke and William Streets, a couple of blocks from Flagstaff Station or Southern Cross.
WordCamp Europe is just a few weeks away so we’re presenting a preview of a couple of talks you’ll be seeing at the biggest WordCamp ever.
Arrive at 6:30pm for mingling over pizza thanks to our sponsor Envato. The talks will begin at 7:00pm following a short introduction by Dee Teal. After the meetup, we’ll head to a nearby pub to continue socialising.
Connected WordPress with Gary Pendergast
As WordPress grows beyond 25% of the internet, we have a unique opportunity to leverage that power. This talk will propose the Connected WordPress initiative, to connect all WordPress sites together into an Open Platform, for social, sharing and security.
Gary is a WordPress, web and music geek who writes poetry with Automattic. He’s been know to commit random things to WordPress Core, just to see what would happen. He can be observed in his natural habitats at pento.net. and @garypendergast.
Seven times faster: a study in frontend optimization with Peter Wilson
The average web page takes fifteen seconds to load, this can lower the PageSpeed score to the low 30s. Working together web designers and devs can make sites readable in two seconds, working towards a web seven times faster.
Peter Wilson is a web-developer with twenty years experience, he is a CSS junkie, a developer at Human Made Australia, and a regular contributor to WordPress core. Peter writes at peterwilson.cc and tweets as @pwcc.

We’re always looking for new speakers, so contact the organisers in the meetup.com sidebar if you have an idea for a talk. We usually start the night with a light meal before the talks and a social drink somewhere local afterwards.
